Selling Famous Musicians’ Gear to Raise Money and Awareness for PPE

Uniting musicians from around the world, DIY effects pedal company Death By Audio launches fundraiser to raise money for GetUsPPE by selling donated gear from the likes of Wilco, IDLES, Queens of the Stone Age, and more.

QUEENS, NEW YORK (AUGUST 24, 2020)Death By Audio Effects, the NYC- based effects pedal company, has teamed up with the non-profit, GetUsPPE to raise money for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for healthcare and frontline workers battling the coronavirus. To bring more exposure to the continuing need for PPE, Death By Audio has curated a pop-up shop Protection By Audio hosted on the popular music gear selling platform, Reverb.

Protection By Audio started when Death By Audio partners Oliver Ackermann and Heather Bickford were quarantined in their Brooklyn apartment, having recently recovered from the virus. “After hearing the struggles and traumas experienced by those working on the frontlines, we knew we had to do something to help,” said Heather Bickford, Director of Operations at Death By Audio. “We brainstormed a bunch of ideas and then it dawned on us that we have a lot of friends in the music industry and that a lot of them would be down to help.”

The Protection By Audio shop features autographed gear, hand-drawn one-offs, and pieces of musical history from members of IDLES, Wilco, the Flaming Lips, Queens of the Stone Age, Spoon, the Black Angels, Spacemen 3, Thee Oh Sees, A Place to Bury Strangers, Xiu Xiu, METZ, the Melvins, That Dog, the Voidz, Into It.Over It, This Will Destroy You, and more. Death By Audio will also be donating rare and never-been-seen prototypes.

All proceeds from the popup shop will go directly to the non-profit GetUsPPE. This volunteer-driven organization was started by emergency department physicians in March 2020. Started as a short-term solution to the PPE crisis among healthcare workers, the group has since expanded to coordinate and distribute PPE to essential workers and those who need it most. As COVID-19 infection rates continue to rise, GetUsPPE works tirelessly to fulfill existing PPE needs and prepare for even more dire shortages to come. To date, there are still over 16,000 outstanding requests for PPE in their database.

With Protection By Audio, donors can support healthcare workers during the COVID-19 crisis while also acquiring their favorite musician’s gear.

PROTECTION BY AUDIO DROPS TUESDAY AUGUST 25, 2020 11AM EST.
