Both guitars, totally unique in themselves with the symbolic Welsh Ddraig laser-etched on the body, were presented to Scott Quinell and Tim Sturges by JHS Business Development Manager Chris Bentham, in appreciation of their on-going hard work raising awareness of this important charity.

Hosted by the Friends of the Royal British Legion Band of Wales, Guitars for Veterans, is a non-profitable organisation providing relief through the healing power of music, to struggling UK Armed Forces Veterans living in Wales who suffer from PTSD.

Says G4V Chairman Tim Sturges, “I’m so delighted to receive this beautiful Statesboro’ Concert electro-acoustic guitar on behalf of G4V, which will join our growing family of Vintage instruments.”

Whilst the charity itself started in 2018, the G4V project is now in its third year, with over 90 members. New members, male or female of any age, rank or nationality can join the group, as long as they have served just one day in the military anywhere in the world.

G4V project

Tim continues “Veterans shouldn’t have to face the challenges of PTSD in silence or alone. We all know that whilst music itself is an international language, it’s also a healer and is therapeutic, especially when playing an instrument. We also strive to support the victim’s family if required, again with the help of donated guitars.

Vintage guitars have proven themselves over and over again within the G4V organisation, we now have 78 models from the Statesboro’ Series and, like all Vintage guitars, they all offer extreme value for money, whilst effortless to play and just sound so good.”

Having played for Wales 52 times, scoring 12 tries and taking part in two British Lions tours, Scott Quinnell is indeed, an integral part of Welsh Rugby history and, for many years has been a supporter of the Make a Wish foundation, Patron of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, Vice president of the Welsh Scouts Cymru and an avid supporter of Guitars For Veterans.

“I was absolutely delighted to receive this gorgeous 12 string electro-acoustic guitar,” says Scott. “It’s all to help raise awareness of this vital charity G4V. It’s amazing how they help veterans get back into society who have returned from a conflict, only to realise that they have PTSD. Music alone, is very therapeutic, so taking it to the next step, by actually learning an instrument with G4V is wonderful.

Scott continues, “Vintage guitars are amazing, JHS who distribute them all over the world, have been so good, I also have a Vintage 6 string acoustic which sounds beautiful, but having been an International rugby player, my fingers aren’t small or petite to say the least.

So for me, it’s a challenge, especially now with this stunning 12 string dreadnought model. My process of thinking says if I practice with this one, it’ll make the 6 string easier to play, although I must say, learning to play guitar has been much harder than playing rugby.”
