AKRON, OHIO, JUNE 2023 – EarthQuaker Day, the day-long community celebration, returns on Saturday August 5. Created by Akron-based effects pedal company EarthQuaker Devices, EarthQuaker Day welcomes everyone from the surrounding communities to its facility in the heart of Akron for a day of activities, prizes and live music, food, and more.
The family-friendly celebration begins at 7pm, Friday, August 4, at downtown live music venue Musica (51 E. Market St.) for EarthQuaker’s Eve, featuring live music from Quiet Zoo, Non Bruises, and Angie Haze.
EarthQuaker Day officially begins at 11am on Saturday, August 5, with pedal clinics from EQD founder and lead designer Jamie Stillman, and composer and instrument designer Jon Sonnenberg, who recently co-composed Confluence, a special collaboration between the Akron Symphony Orchestra and EarthQuaker Devices. The afternoon of live music begins at 1pm on the EQD grounds with Cello Azul, a Latinx cellist from Long Beach, CA. Next up is original music from the Cleveland duo Me:You, comprised of RA Washington and LaToya Kent, co-founders of Mourning [A] BLKstar, The lineup is rounded out with Youngstown-based The Vindys, who have been causing quite a stir opening for headliners like Vampire Weekend, Nelly and Jason Mraz. Throughout the event, EQD Day celebrants will be treated to prizes, food trucks, shop tours, pedal sales and doodles, and vendors from Akron and beyond.
For those who want to keep the celebration going, the official EarthQuaker Day Afterparty happens at 7pm on Saturday at Musica. The evening will feature more live music from regional bands 3rd Pyramid, Tiny the Dream, and Muzzle. Jeff France will be spinning records both nights at Musica.
