Michael Britt Profiles Introduces ‘It’s Just Bass’ Profile Pack by Steve Cook with Proceeds Benefiting Mama Lere Hearing School
NASHVILLE, TN (Feb. 10, 2020) — New from Michael Britt Profiles, the “It’s Just Bass” profile pack by Steve Cook is a great-sounding bass profile pack that benefits an even greater cause. Much like guitarist and founder Michael Britt, bassist Steve Cook has gravitated toward the KEMPER PROFILER™ amplifier on stage and in the studio. The two Nashville-based musicians recently collaborated on profiling all of Steve’s bass preamp collection, resulting in a pack that includes dozens of profiles for players to enjoy. Even more gratifying is the fact that all proceeds from sales of It’s Just Bass will benefit the Mama Lere Hearing School at Vanderbilt in Nashville, where Steve’s son Miles and many other children with hearing loss receive life-changing therapy.
For the past nine years, Steve Cook has been the bassist/vocalist for singer/songwriter Phil Vassar. Last year, Vassar and his band shared the stage on a Christmas tour with the band Lonestar, which is how Steve met guitarist Michael Britt. While gearing up for another Lonestar/Vassar tour, Steve and Michael built a tone pack for bass guitar that puts all of Steve’s favorite bass DIs at his fingertips, including 51 unique profiles from 11 different bass preamps, as well as four song-specific rigs. Michael also contributed 20 bass profiles from his “Box of Chocolates” profile pack. Steve tested the profiles on his KEMPER while on tour and with much success.
“I am pretty excited to be a small part of this tremendous community, and for Michael Britt to have me dial in some tones to help your musical journey is both humbling and daunting at the same time,” Steve wrote in a recent blog post. “It’s daunting because we wanted you to have great tone, and at the same time, I offer a small bit of advice: it’s just bass. Don’t overthink it. If something sounds great to you, it IS great.”
The DIs in the It’s Just Bass profile pack can be paired with everything from the active 5 bass to a hollowbody bass with flatwound strings, and run the gamut of what bass players need anywhere at any time. According to Steve, some of the sounds have some “bite or dirt,” which is intentional as the slightly gritty, mid-heavy bass signal cuts through the mix. The tones each have their own vibe and voice, allowing players to find something that pairs well with their bass guitar while also having fun and experimenting.
Hearing the subtleties of bass in the mix, or just being able to enjoy music in general, is a gift many take for granted. Steve’s youngest son, Miles, was born with severe hearing loss and received cochlear implants nearly one year ago. Steve’s great hope is that one day Miles hears concerts and enjoys music as easily as his big brother. In the meantime, Miles attends the Mama Lere Hearing School at Vanderbilt in Nashville, a renowned school dedicated to helping hearing-impaired children communicate verbally. The school also helps children and families who can’t afford treatment or devices, and that’s where Michael Britt is generously giving back. Every It’s Just Bass profile pack sold will benefit the Mama Lere Hearing School and families in need.
“To say I am overwhelmed is an understatement,” Steve reflected. “Not only does this profile pack help you, but you are helping a lot of kids possibly hear and communicate as well.”
