This book allows readers to discover everything they wanted to know about Mays’ unique instrument. All this accompanied by original schematics, sketches and notes dating back to the construction of the guitar as well as a large selection of photographs including ones of May on stage with the Red Special, closeups and X-Rays.

In the book May explains: ‘My Dad and I decided to make an electric guitar. I designed the instrument from scratch, with the intention it would have a capacity beyond anything out there, more tuneable, with a greater range of pitches and sounds, better tremolo and able to feed thorough the air in a ‘good’ way.’
