Rapier add new models to its catalogue of popular solid bodied guitars and basses, retro-themed around the first British built guitars of the 1960s.

Whilst celebrating the company’s 60th anniversary at NAMM 2025, JHS are also launching a host of new acoustic and electric fretted instruments at this year’s show, including the Rapier 6 string solid bodied Saffire Ultra electric guitar and 4 string Rapier Symphonic Bass.

Designed by the legendary UK guitar builder and hardware specialist Alan Entwistle, like all models in the popular Rapier Series, these new instruments are not just eye-catching with all the visual charm of the originals that played a major role in the industry of British built guitars and basses from the 1960s, they feature significant tonewood and hardware upgrades to meet the needs of the modern player.

Rapier Saffire Ultra electric guitar

Looking the part, available in a choice of striking finishes that include Greenburst Ocean Blue and Shoreline Gold, offset with 2-piece 3-ply scratchplates, hardware upgrades for the double cutaway Rapier Saffire Ultra electric guitar, include a trio of Entwistle designed low-noise Astrosonic Split pickups wired via two 5-way selectors, a single volume and 2 tone controls which, when combined with his ingenious ATN 5-way switching system offer a host of sonic permutations.

Now with roller bridge saddles, a re-engineered Hi-Lo Resonance long-plate vibrato system and Wilkinson E-Z LoK machine heads, the Rapier Saffire performs with accurate return to pitch, rock solid tuning and spot on intonation.

Tonewood additions include a single bound okeume chambered body, high gloss maple neck, bound rosewood fingerboard with block position markers, and a nod to the original models from the 1960s with 22 frets including the zero fret.

Looking extra cool finished Firenza Red, Arctic White or Metallic Silver, the new Rapier Symphonic 4 string bass fitted with a pair of Alan Entwistle designed Astro Sonic VX bass pickups, single volume control, global tone control and the natural resonance of the okemue body, bolt-on maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, like the Rapier Saffire Ultra guitar, effortlessly delivers the classic Rapier voice, heard on a host of early British pop songs, now with a wider tonal range that is ideal for a host of popular styles.

A Wilkinson WPB bass bridge and Wilkinson WJBL 200 machine heads provide a solid mantle for stable tuning and accurate intonation, whilst a chrome bridge cover and thumb rest are a subtle reminder of Alan Entwistle’s attention to detail.
