CALABASAS, Calif. May 14, 2025 — Guild® Guitars announced at NAMM earlier this year that, from January onwards, all Guild USA acoustic guitars will be outfitted with DR® Dragon Skin+™ Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings. Guild acoustic guitars have been renowned for their exceptional tone and playability for more than seven decades. DR Strings was founded in 1989 by Mark Dronge, the son of Guild founder Al Dronge, to manufacture round-core strings in an effort to help Guild acoustic guitars realize their full sonic potential. The two brands have now joined forces once again.
“I reached out to Guild and suggested we bring the brands back together again,” said Annika Dronge, CEO, DR Strings. “My father founded DR and my grandfather founded Guild, so we have that shared history, and DR had some highly innovative new strings that I felt would be a perfect match for Guild’s California-made acoustic guitars.”
“Here at Guild we did extensive testing of numerous string types and brands and I wasn’t at all surprised when in the end we chose the DR Dragon Skin+ strings,” enthused Adam Ehrig, VP of Manufacturing, Guild USA. “We could all appreciate their greater articulation, extra sparkle, and increased comfort. That makes sense, as DR strings were literally made for our USA guitars.”
Dragon Skin+ strings feature patented Accurate Core Technology™ that creates grooves on the core to cradle the wrap wire, resulting in a full and balanced sound with sparkling highs, enhanced projection, and increased tuning stability. Plus, a micro-thin string coating increases playing comfort and extends string life.
Guild USA acoustic guitars include the D-20, D-40 Standard, D-40 Traditional, D-50 Standard, D-55, F-40 Standard, F-40 Traditional, F-55, F-512, and M-20 models.
