Celemony Tonalic Adds Funky and Bowed Upright Bass by Paul Kleber

Guitar Pro 8 - Buy now

Celemony Tonalic has expanded its library with new upright bass performances by Paul Kleber, introducing funk-influenced lines for hip-hop and pop alongside a broader selection of bowed bass recordings. Announced on September 8, 2026, the update becomes available automatically to subscribers and prepaid license customers when they next launch the plug-in.

Developed by the creators of Melodyne, Tonalic brings recorded studio performances into a digital audio workstation, adapting them to a song’s chords, tempo and groove while retaining the musician’s articulation and playing detail.

Upright Bass Grooves for Hip-Hop and Pop

Kleber’s earlier Tonalic sets focused on jazz, Latin, gypsy and early swing styles. His new recordings extend that range with acoustic bass lines built around contemporary grooves and melodic hooks.

According to Celemony, the performances are designed to work with the library’s existing drums and percussion, providing rhythmic foundations that can also serve as starting points for songwriting. The recordings include multiple variations, transitions and endings for developing complete arrangements.

The update also expands Kleber’s bowed upright bass material. These performances offer a wider range of articulations and melodic movement, with parts that can be layered to create fuller textures beneath guitars or vocals.

Paul Kleber’s Classical Roots and Berlin Jazz Background

A classically trained double bassist, Paul Kleber has extended his playing into jazz, pop and electronic music. He has been active in Berlin’s jazz scene since the mid-1990s, performing with ensembles including Jazzanova Live and the Moka Efti Orchestra.

His collaborators include Emilíana Torrini, Fink, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Nina Hagen. His Tonalic recordings draw on decades of experience, combining groove-focused timing with harmonically detailed, fluid bass lines.

Automatic Library Update and License Options

Existing subscribers and prepaid license customers receive the new performances automatically at the next program launch, with no additional action required. New customers begin with the latest version of the library.

Tonalic is available through monthly or annual subscriptions at tonalic.com. At the time of the announcement, an introductory offer provides the first month for $1 or €1, after which regular subscription pricing applies. Music dealers also offer one-month and one-year prepaid licenses without a subscription commitment.

The platform features performances by more than 30 session musicians, recorded across genres in studios worldwide. Celemony says the library expands at least every three months with new musicians and styles. An international production team records, prepares and adapts the material for use in Tonalic.

About Celemony and Tonalic

Tonalic is distributed by Celemony Music GmbH, a subsidiary of Celemony Software GmbH, through music dealers and online subscriptions.

Celemony introduced Melodyne in 2001, establishing its approach to note-based audio editing, particularly for vocals. In 2008, the company presented its patented DNA Direct Note Access technology, extending editing to individual notes within polyphonic recordings, including chords.

Later developments included the Sound Editor, Multitrack Note Editing for simultaneous editing across an unlimited number of audio tracks, tempo and chord functions, and separate detection and editing of vocal sibilants. Celemony also developed the Capstan audio restoration tool and the ARA plug-in interface. The company and Melodyne have received numerous awards, including a Technical Grammy in 2012.
