Breedlove Guitars and Artists Unite to Protect the Black Ram Forest Through Music and Storytelling
Bend, Ore. (April 22, 2025) – At Breedlove, every day is Earth Day. That commitment to sustainability goes far beyond tonewoods and craftsmanship—it extends into wild places, sacred forests, and the stories worth telling. This Earth Day, Breedlove is proud to highlight the Black Ram Guitar Project, a yearlong collaboration with environmental advocates, musicians, and artists working to protect the old-growth forests of Montana’s Yaak Valley.
The centerpiece of the effort is the Black Ram Guitar, crafted from a 315-year-old Engelmann spruce tree from the very forest now under threat from the proposed Black Ram timber sale. The guitar, a sonic and symbolic tribute to the land, has become a voice for the forest itself.
The story is told through a new short documentary, All in This Together, produced in partnership with Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges, environmental author Rick Bass, and a coalition of artists and filmmakers. The film follows the creation of the Black Ram Guitar from forest floor to fretboard—and its journey back into the wild to raise awareness and inspire change.

“For us, sustainability is not a marketing line—it’s a lifelong mission,” said Angela Christensen, head of product development and wood management at Breedlove. “The Black Ram Guitar Project is a deeply personal extension of our values and our craft. We’re proud to stand with our artist community in defense of the forests that inspire us.”
As the campaign continues, the Black Ram Guitar will appear in performances, exhibitions, and storytelling events, carrying its message across the country and into the hands of those who can make a difference.
Because at Breedlove, Earth Day is every day—and our instruments are built to honor the earth that gives them life.
