Tampa, Florida – April 28, 2026 – A federal court has ruled in favor of Armadillo Distribution Enterprises in a major legal dispute involving the ownership of iconic Dean Guitars models and trademarks.
The United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida granted summary judgment to Armadillo in the case In Dime We Trust v. Armadillo Distribution Enterprises, effectively dismissing most of the claims brought against the company. These included allegations related to trademark ownership, fraud, and breach of contract.
Court Confirms Trademark Rights
At the center of the dispute was the ownership of well-known guitar designs and trademarks associated with Dean Guitars, including the highly recognizable Razorback and Stealth models. The court’s decision affirms that Armadillo holds legitimate rights to these assets based on long-standing commercial use and good faith business practices.
The ruling also rejected claims questioning Armadillo’s ownership of key intellectual property tied to the legacy of guitarist Darrell Abbott, widely known as Dimebag Darrell.
Longstanding Industry Relationship
For nearly two decades, Armadillo maintained a working relationship with the Abbott family, grounded in a shared appreciation for Abbott’s musical legacy and his association with Dean Guitars.
According to the company, the court’s decision reflects what it has consistently maintained: that its trademark rights were earned through sustained use and established business operations over time.
Company Response
“We are grateful for the Court’s thorough and careful consideration of the law,” said Pamela Keris, Owner and CEO of Armadillo Distribution Enterprises.
What This Means for the Industry
The ruling provides clarity around the ownership of several high-profile guitar designs and reinforces the importance of documented commercial use in trademark disputes. It may also have broader implications for how intellectual property rights are evaluated in the music equipment industry.
